MCA members visit Sarasota County Croquet Club

VENICE, FL -- Jodi and Greg Adams of Kansas City, Mo were at Venice, Florida this last weekend to visit the Sarasota County Croquet Club. The Adams' report everyone was very nice and welcoming.

The club was formed in 2000 and now has 160 members. The club has three regulation sized croquet courts, one of which is sometimes converted into two ½ sized courts to better accommodate beginners to the sport.

The SCCC is located in Venice Florida on property owned by the City of Venice and maintained by the Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department. The SCCC is the largest public facility dedicated to croquet in the United States.

Brad Clouse Wins 2010 Lee's Summit Tourney

Brad Clouse (click photo to see gallery)LEE'S SUMMIT, MO -- Twelve players braved a day of steady, cold rain at Hartman Park in Lee's Summit yesterday to kick off the 2010 MCA croquet season. Brad Clouse emerged as the first place winner of the Waterford Doubles nine-wicket event with a perfect 5-0 record.

Nick Zink claimed second place and Johnny Nichol grabbed third place, but the main story was one of survival. Umbrellas, rain suits and a change clothes were essential for the event as the rain never quit. The time limit games were shortened to 40 minutes after lunch to speed things along. Lunch was a big highlight as Ron and Debbie Millican funded a catered BBQ lunch that was fantastic and gave the players a chance to huddle near the heated food trays.

Despite the wet atmosphere, Hartman Park appeared to be a great facility for the event and players discussed the potential of hosting the event there again in 2011.
