LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo.—Midwest Croquet Association members decided to revamp the format of the 2019 Lee's Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament during the Annual General Meeting on Saturday.
But the MCA needs your help, quickly.
The MCA is asking that members recruit a partner to participate in a Member-Guest-style doubles tournament. Consider this year's Lee's Summit T-Bone Croquet Tournament to be a "high-low" tournament in which a more-skilled player is paired with a less-skilled player. Or think of it like a Pro-Am tournament.
The goal is to kick off the croquet season alongside friends, significant others or relatives who don't often find themselves running three-ball breaks. We want others to experience the game and the MCA. The event will be fun, social, interactive and less competitive than MCA Nine Wicket Series events of the past.
Games will maintain the nine wicket format. The tournament structure and schedule will depend on the number of teams and players that register and will be subject to change; however, the MCA envisions an equal number of games in block play that will determine matchups for one-game playoffs to decide first place, third place and, perhaps, more.
Can't find a partner? Sign up anyway. The MCA will work with you to match you up with someone else and find a format that will accommodate those who registered. Please register by Tuesday, April 30, to give the MCA ample time to plan the tournament schedule.
The tournament will start around 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, and last into the mid-afternoon at Lea McKeighan Park, a more visible, busier park in Lee's Summit.
MCA members agreed the time is right to share the game with more onlookers as well as more players, whether they are beginners or have not made the plunge into a higher level of competitive croquet.
Entry fees are $25 for MCA members and $30 for nonmembers. To register, complete the form at this link or embedded below.
