OLATHE, KS -- Forty-four players hit the courts on Friday afternoon for the Seventh Annual Sunflower Wickets golf croquet benefit tournament hosted by the Maffaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm Foundation at the Olathe Community Center in Olathe, Kansas. Chris Grunewald and Ron Shaver of the Olathe City Council took the overall title as they rolled through the single-elimination event with a 6-0 record.
Round one of the day essentially served as a practice round and guaranteed that all teams got at least two games. But once round two was on, it was survive and advance. Interestingly, in round one Grunewald/Shaver defeated Jim Bradford and Dan Hutchins. Hutchins and Bradford recovered and worked through the bottom half of the bracket to get all the way back to the title game for the re-match with Grunewald/Shaver. But the run ended there as Grunewald/Shaver prevailed 5-2 in the title game.
Michael Green and Evan Zimmerman from Mahaffie took third place while Laura Baldwin and Brad Cornell from the Olathe Chamber of Commerce worked through the consolation to earn fourth place.
