Teams are forming now for the Seventh Annual Mahaffie Sunflower Wickets croquet tournament. This unique event is hosted by the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Foundation. The Foundation supports the preservation, programming and promotion of the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site located at 1200 Kansas City Rd. in Olathe. Sunflower Wickets will be held Friday, June 3 at the Olathe Community Center, directly located across the street.
The event begins at 1 p.m. with registration followed by croquet play from1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a Wicked Wickets Happy Hour from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top four finishing teams at 4 p.m. in the Olathe Community Center.
Croquet was a popular in-expensive sport throughout the country in the mid-19th century. Tables of eight are available and two-person teams are now forming.
